A Gurgaon court has summoned a police inspector and four others for allegedly outraging the modesty of a woman inside a police station.
The court of judicial magistrate (first class), Amberdeep Singh also found “sufficient grounds” for summoning them under the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (prevention of atrocities) Act, 1989, as complainant Pooja Singh, a resident of Gurgaon, said that the accused persons humiliated her with casteist remarks.
Inspector Joginder Singh, in-charge of the Gurgaon Crime Investigation Authority’s (CIA) Palam Vihar station, Bhim Singh, Pawan, Praveen and Navin have been asked to appear before the court on August 8.
According to the woman, she had gone to the CIA’s office on June 7, 2012 to speak to the inspector about a case against an acquaintance. She was accompanied by the acquaintance and two others.
But Yadav and his men abused her. They allegedly made derogatory remarks about the community the woman belonged to. They even held her hand and threatened to kidnap her.
The complaint mentions that when she asked inspector Singh to register a case against them, he abused her and told her to go back.
The inspector also discouraged her to report the matter to anyone as Yadav and his men were close to a local politician.
