The Gurgaon police will make special security arrangements to maintain law and order in the city during Holi.
Nearly 1,500 police personnel, including men of the rapid action force (RAF), will be deployed across the city on Thursday and Friday, the day of the festival.
Gurgaon police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk has asked officials to identify sensitive spots and mischievous people and take preventive actions to ensure that the festival of colours is celebrated peacefully.
Virk said leaves of all field staff between March 3 and 6 have been cancelled and only those in extreme conditions will be allowed to go on leave.
The police will also conduct a drive against drunken driving on Thursday and Friday.
“The police department is fully geared up for the occasion and I am sure that personnel of all 23 police stations are well prepared to tackle any unwanted situation,” ACP (crime) Rajesh Kumar said.
Teams from all police stations will patrol different areas of the city. Pickets will be installed at all sensitive areas.
The city police are also working hard to check harassment of women during the festival.
Incidents of misbehaviour with women and passing of lewd comments are common at this time.
Police personnel will be deployed in civil clothes to keep an eye on the crowds, especially youths.
The police control room will coordinate with different police stations to ensure that peace and harmony is maintained during the two days, said police.
