In the wake of a no confidence motion against Gurgaon zila parishad (district council) chairperson Kavita Yadav, the deputy commissioner has agreed to meet councillors on July 29, district development and panchayat officer (DDPO), Alka Choudhary, said on Sunday.
Seven out of 10 councillors in the zila parishad told mediapersons that despite filing an affidavit against the chairperson and requesting the DC to initiate removal proceedings, no action was taken in the past 18 days.
The DDPO, however, later clarified that the DC had, on July 12, already approved of a meeting to give councilors a chance to prove their claims against Kavita Yadav.
The meeting will take place at 12.30pm on July 29 in the presence of the DC.
In a letter addressed to the DC, councilors said the present chairperson has been neglecting development work and is biased with regard to allotment of funds.
“Zila parishad meetings have not been held on time and the relevant agenda has not been discussed,” said Vijyendra Singh, vice-chairman, zila parishad.
The district council is responsible for providing essential services and facilities to the rural population and the planning and execution of the development programmes in the district, among other functions.
Meanwhile, the present chairperson said that all allegations leveled against her are baseless.
“I have been calling meetings at an interval of not more than two months and equitably allocating funds. Allegations leveled against me are not valid as development work can be seen in our records,” Yadav said, adding that the no confidence motion will hold no ground and councillors will support her at the time of the scheduled meeting.
“There are misunderstandings in every family but I will sort it out soon,” she said.
On the other hand, members of the parishad, including councillors of ward numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8, have proposed the name of Asha Chauhan, councillor of ward number 4, as the new chairperson.
