The sun played hide and seek behind the clouds the entire day and there were intermittent showers in the city on Friday afternoon.
However, the temperature rose marginally despite the scattered rainfall. It rained heavily in neighbouring Delhi in the evening, but the huge grey clouds failed to deliver in Gurgaon, much to the disappointment of residents.
The day started on a pleasant note with clouds hovering over Gurgaon skies, but by 11 am the sky was all clear and temperature rose gradually. However, an hour later, dark clouds appeared over the city and slight drizzle was reported from different parts. The clouds kept returning but were ultimately blown away by the wind, killing any hope of Gurgaon getting heavy rainfall.
However, there could be reason for cheer as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast says that Delhi and rest of the national capital region could experience a wet weekend. Rainfall is likely to commence from Friday evening. The intensity of rain in and around Delhi could pick up and parts of Haryana might receive moderate to scattered showers.
A resident, who tweets through the handle @twilightfairy, posted a photo of the clouds on microblogging site Twitter and said “pregnant with rains but marching ahead.’
A beautiful rainbow was also reported from the city and Anoop Bhaskran posted on his Facebook wall “absolutely stunning”.
Despite the drizzle and heavy rainfall in Delhi, both minimum and maximum temperature rose marginally in Gurgaon. The IMD said the maximum temperature rose to 33 degrees Celsius and it was 2 degrees more than Thursday. The minimum temperature was recorded at 16.9 degrees Celsius, and it was 3 degrees more than the previous day.
An official of the IMD said that temperature will fall by 3 to 4 degrees in northwesten India as moderate to scattered rainfall is expected in certain parts.
