A 33-year-old Delhi resident was killed after his motorcycle was allegedly hit by an SUV near Galleria market in DLF Phase-4 on Monday morning, the police said.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Pardeep Kumar, was staying in Arya Nagar of Delhi, and worked at a mobile store in Galleria market.

The police said the incident took place around 11am, when the victim was on his way to work.

Investigating officer Raj Kumar said a Ford Endeavour car tried to overtake a vehicle in front, and allegedly hit Kumar’s motorcycle.

“The car’s driver and another passerby took Kumar to a private hospital in Sushant Lok where he was declared dead on arrival. The victim sustained a critical injury to his head when he was hit by the car and came under its wheels,” assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Raj Kumar said.

Dr Deepak Mathur, forensic expert at Civil the Hospital, Gurugram, said the victim died due to excessive bleeding from a head injury.

The police said the accused, who was driving a Ford Endeavour car bearing a Haryana registration number, fled after taking the victim to the hospital.

ASI Raj Kumar said efforts were being made to arrest the accused.

The police said a case was registered under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code on Monday at Sector 29 police station.

The victim is survived by a wife and two children.

A similar incident took place on the night of July 7, when a 19-year-old delivery man, who worked for an online food-delivery startup, was severely injured after an SUV had allegedly hit his motorcycle near Galleria market.

The victim, Pushpendra Singh, was tossed 15 feet in the air after the collision, sustaining a broken collar bone, rib fractures, liver damage and head injuries.

The police at the time had said that the car driver, who was arrested, was in an inebriated condition.
