Samarth Kohli was abducted from near his office. His ordeal ended 15 hours later when he was dumped in Rajasthangurgaon Updated: May 23, 2017 23:41 IST
The ordeal of Delhi resident Samarth Kohli, who was abducted close to his office near Subhash Chowk on Monday night, lasted 15 hours and stretched across 500km. Kohli was finally let go on Tuesday afternoon when his kidnappers dumped him at Haripur in Pali district of Rajasthan along with his white Honda car.
A day earlier, Kohli, who works with AIG Insurance in Sector 48, was abducted around 9.30pm near his office when he stepped out of his car to check its malfunctioning lights. According to the police, two armed men dragged him inside the car, and forced him to sit in the rear.
From there, they took him to Sector 14, where a number of ATMs are installed, and made him conduct multiple transactions to withdraw money. Luckily for Kohli, the mobile phone whose number is registered with banks was lying at home. The phone started getting multiple messages of such transactions, leading the family to suspect that something was amiss. Money was withdrawn through the night near Bawal, Jaipur and Ajmer. By 5:30am, Kohli’s brother had alerted the Gurgaon police, which informed the Ajmer police and also sent three teams to Rajasthan.
Deepak Bhargav, superintendent of police (SP), Pali, told HT that an alert was sounded and barricades made functional soon after Ajmer police informed them about the movement of the kidnappers.
With both Rajasthan and Gurgaon police after them, the kidnappers dumped Kohli and his car at Haripur, which falls under Raipur police station in Rajasthan.
“The duo perhaps saw that the police had tightened security and they could be arrested so they left him along with the white Honda car. The victim has been handed over to a team of Gurgaon police,” said Mahabir Singh, station house officer (SHO), Raipur police station.
As Kohli had repeatedly withdrawn money as the kidnappers had demanded, he was not physically harmed.
His brother, Dhruv Kohli, who went to Pali along with the police team, said the victim had been rescued and was being brought back by a team of Sadar police station.
The Gurgaon police, meanwhile, said three teams from crime investigation agency (CIA) 39, east, and Sadar police stations were sent to Rajasthan to catch the two kidnappers. They have been identified and will be arrested soon, the police said.
Sumit Kuhar, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), crime, said they came to know of the kidnapping at 5:30am and police teams were immediately formed to track the location of Kohli’s car through the ATM transactions.
“Police teams were rushed to Ajmer and Pali on the basis of the last transactions. The victim was rescued near Raipur in Pali,” said Kuhar.
ACP, Sadar, Anil Yadav said a case of abduction has been registered at Sadar police station.
