A 26-year-old man, who worked as an assistant line man (ALM) with the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN), was electrocuted while repairing a technical fault at a power cable near the Metro Valley Projects in Gwal Pahari on the Faridabad-Gurugram road on Wednesday.

The police said the victim, identified as Dharmender Kumar, died on the spot and a case of death due to negligence was registered against the joint engineer of the area.

According to the police, the incident took place on Wednesday at 9.30am, when the victim went to repair a technical fault in a non-operational line.

DHVBN superintendent engineer KC Aggarwal said due to inclement weather conditions in the past week, one phase was not working and the victim was sent to fix it. “The victim was electrocuted after he turned on a switch of an 11KV cable, which had current,” Aggarwal said, adding an investigation was initiated to look into the incident.

Investigating officer Rambir said the victim was directed by the joint engineer to check a phase that was non-operational. “When the victim pulled a lever, he got a high voltage shock and collapsed. A passerby informed the police and he was taken to a private hospital in Sushant Lok, where he was declared dead on arrival,” assistant sub -inspector Rambir said.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother, Anil Kumar, a case was registered against the joint engineer under Section 304 A (punishment for death by negligence) of Indian Penal Code at DLF phase-1 police station.

The police said the accused is yet to be arrested and the matter is under investigation.

The victim is survived by his wife and an infant son.
