A new air-conditioned high school in A-block Extension of DLF Phase-1 is being seen as a threat to their peace by the residents.
The residents, who have been opposing the construction of the school for the past three years, have now filed an RTI application seeking information on the school’s completion certificate granted by the town planning department.
The school with a capacity of 3,000 students is being built at the dead end of A-block Extension that means school vehicles will be virtually ruining on the colony’s narrow streets. The residents say that 30 large buses carrying children and many other vehicles of parents and visitors will cause damages to the locality, which was developed three decades ago. “The site was earmarked for a park then,” said a resident.
“The builders cheated us as they did not inform us about the proposed high school building,” alleged Nivedita Sharma, a resident and a lawyer.
“We are shocked that such a large school was given permission without checking of the ground realities,” said Milin Kapoor, whose house is located off a 12-metre road that will be catering to the buses of the proposed school.
A senior official in the DLF management told HT that the allegations of residents do not carry any merit. “The building is coming up with all the norms and there will be no nuisance in the locality,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
DLF Qutab Enclave Charitable Trust, which is the custodian of the school building, could not be reached for comments.
