The family of a rape victim alleged that they are being threatened by one of the accused and are under pressure to withdraw the case against him. They claimed that through the victim survived the ordeal, the accused sent them a fake death certificate in a bid to intimidate them.
The victim’s family members met the Gurgaon police commissioner on Wednesday claiming he was pressuring them to withdraw the case and sought action against him.
They further alleged that the victim’s father, a retired officer of the Gurgaon police, was also attacked by the accused and three associates while he was taking a walk in the park on Sunday.
The kin claimed the accused had a gun and his associates were armed with sticks as they attacked the victim’s father on Sunday. Her father sustained multiple injuries and was under treatment at a city hospital for three days.
“It’s been 17 years we have been fighting for justice. The prime accused fled the city after the incident. The police is yet to act against him,” the victim’s cousin said.
The case dates back to 2000. The girl, then 12, was gang-raped by three persons. While two of them were later acquitted in the case, the prime accused had been absconding, the kin claimed.
The family expressed their shock and dismay over being sent the fake death certificate of the victim.
“He is resorting to dirty tricks in a bid to pressure us to withdraw the case. He wants to prove she’s dead in a bid to escape charges. He has also been threatening us. It is getting increasingly difficult for us to stay in the neighbourhood," the victim’s cousin said.
They claimed the police never pledged support in their quest to ensure justice for the victim and bring the accused the book.
However, city police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar assured them of action in a week.
