With the six-floor shopping complex at the Huda City Centre Metro station set to open soon, no progress on the three proposed foot-over-bridges (FOBs) at the busy crossing may compound the already poor traffic management situation here.
As per estimates, more than one lakh commuters cross the Metro station junction every day to reach Iffco Chowk, Park Plaza and The Palms on Golf Course Road, Sushant Lok-2 & 3, Gold Souk Mall, Ardee City and Sector 56, among various other residential and commercial landmarks in the vicinity.
The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) had allotted the task of preparing a detailed project report (DPR) on the FOBs to a Delhi-based consultancy firm in April. However, the estimate provided by the firm was found wanting by Huda officials and sent back for a fresh report.
Now, according to a senior Huda official, the final estimate is expected to be sent for approval to the Huda administrator in July.
After a survey, it was decided that one FOB each will be built on the roads leading to Signature Tower, Iffco Chowk and Bakhtawar Chowk.
As per estimates, around 40,000 Delhi Metro commuters board trains from the Huda City Centre station every day.
When the shopping area at the Metro station is thrown open to the public, the situation is bound to go out of hands in terms of traffic management and safety of hordes of pedestrians at the junction outside.
Spread across 29,225 square metres, the basement of the complex has parking space for 6,500 vehicles.
Keeping in mind the shopping centre’s strategic location — proximity to the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and several residential areas — the rise in footfall at the shopping complex is expected to be considerable.
