Every day, when I return home after a walk with my two dogs, it has become a ritual for me to stamp my feet and brush my clothes to get rid of the dust that clings to everything.

Dust has become the one constant in my life since I moved to Greater Noida West last December. It cakes the windows of my home, forms a fine patina on the furniture and everything else and creates dunes right outside the gate of my society.

When I first visited the home in Greater Noida West that I ended up buying last autumn, I was struck by the beauty of the surroundings. The roads were nicely built and wide, the society was surrounded by open, green fields and everything looked beautiful.

But the winter brought along with it intense pollution and copious amounts of dust, which made our lives miserable. Driving on the roads of Greater Noida West, especially at night, one can see the dust around the numerous construction sites, often reducing visibility and making it difficult to breathe.

One reads about how both the Noida Authority and builders have tried to shift the responsibility for tackling this problem. But all this matters little to the residents of the area – they need a solution to this menace that poses a serious health risk, and they need it now.

It is time for bodies such as the National Green Tribunal to crack the whip, and hard, so that responsibility is fixed and steps are taken to check the problem. As a resident of the area, it’s hard to believe that a solution to this problem has not been found so far.
