Fortuner snatched at gunpoint on MG Road, Scorpio stolen near Kherki Daula

According to police, three men held the driver at gunpoint, got into the car and drove away. They later dumped the driver and fled with the SUV.

 A brand new Fortuner, owned by an Assam-based businessman, was allegedly robbed at gunpoint from MG Road on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, three men held the driver at gunpoint, got into the car and drove away. They later dumped the driver and fled with the SUV.

Arvind Kochar, the businessman who owned the car, said after driving around in the car for almost an hour, the assailants the driver near Vasant Kunj, Delhi, and fled with the car.

The driver later borrowed a phone from a passerby and called Kochar around 3pm. He immediately dialled the police control room and registered a complaint at DLF Phase 2 police station.

A case under sections 392, 24 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 25/24/59 of the Arms Act was registered against the three unknown accused.

Kochar, who is based in Assam and has an office in Gurgaon, said the Fortuner was purchased just 15 days ago and it had cost him around Rs 40 lakh. The vehicle had a temporary registration number.

“I got down for lunch at 2.15pm on MG Road and my driver parked the car on the roadside near Heritage City. An hour later, the driver called from an unknown number and told me that he had been abducted and dumped in Vasant Kunj by three men who robbed him of the car,” Kochar said.

The car driver Subash Kumar told the police that the incident happened around 2.30pm, when he was sitting inside the vehicle and reading a newspaper. The three men walked up to him and one of them pointed a gun at him.

“The other two sat in the rear seat and put a cloth on Subash’s face while the third took the wheel and drove for about another 30 minutes before dumping Subash in Vasant Kunj,” Kochar said.

The police said a case has been registered and the matter is being probed. “The CCTV footage from various sources has been obtained and the matter is being investigated. The accused will be nabbed soon,” Ravinder Kumar, PRO, Gurgaon police, said.

In another incident, a case was registered against six unidentified persons for allegedly snatching a Scorpio near Kherki Daula on Wednesday evening. The complainant, Rajiv Dubey, told police that he was waylaid by six armed assailants, who snatched his White Scorpio and mobile phone.

A case in this connection was registered under sections 341, 365, 395 of the IPC and 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act at Kherki Daula police station. The police said the matter is being investigated.

Earlier, on Feb 9, Three unidentified persons snatched an Etios Liva car near Sector 103 from a Sanjay Tayagi (36) who was driving his car alone.
