In a major boost to commuters in Gurgaon, Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday inaugurated an underpass aimed at easing congestion in the city and facilitating smoother movement of traffic on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The underpass has been built by the National Highways Authority of India with support of the state government.

Along with the two-lane underpass connecting the Bhakhtawar Singh Road with Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway at Rajiv Chowk, the minister also opened the four-lane flyover at Maharana Pratap Chowk on MG Road to traffic. Gadkari also laid the foundation stone for upgrading and strengthening the NH-248A road from Rajiv chowk to Sohna, which will be built at a cost of ₹1,700 crore.

He also inaugurated the revamped T junctions near Dhaula Kuan Metro station and near defence area at a cost of ₹270 crore.

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, union minister of state for planning Rao Inderjit Singh, Haryana PWD minister Rao Narbir Singh and senior NHAI officials and those from the district administration were among the dignitaries present at the inauguration event.

The event also saw participation from a large number of BJP workers and supporters, who hailed the announcements made by Gadkari and Khattar.

Speaking on the occasion, Gadkari announced that projects amounting to ₹35,000 crore have been approved for Haryana and these would be launched this year. “I want the state government to deliver land and also shift the high power transmission line that will facilitate the construction of an access control highway from Gurgaon to Jaipur,” Gadkari said.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Khattar said that he was extremely thankful to the union transport ministry for approving huge investments in road infrastructure in Gurgaon. “This government has ensured the planned development of Gurgaon and Haryana. This never happened earlier. The projects on NH-8 and Sohna Road will help commuters greatly,” Khattar said.

Badshahpur MLA Rao Narbir Singh hailed the union transport ministry for approving a large number of road and infrastructure projects in Gurgaon and Haryana, saying these are essential for the state’s growth. He also forwarded a list of demands pertaining to road infrastructure, including several flyovers and underpasses in Gurgaon and Mewat districts. Gadkari assured that these projects would be sanctioned and completed during his term as minister.
