Violence broke out in Bhondsi jail on Wednesday morning when members of two gangs clashed over a minor issue while buying food items from the jail canteen. The incident took place around 8.45am.

Six persons, including three inmates and three wardens, were injured in the clash. Inmates broke sticks from trees inside the jail and started hitting each other, stated the complaint filed by jail officials with the police.
“The two groups got into a fight while an elderly inmate was buying some food items from the canteen. One group came and ordered that they be served first, whereas members of the other gang said that the elderly man be served first. This led to the fight. Later, these inmates called their supporters within the jail and started assaulting each other. The incident took place in phase 1 and the prison staff rushed to take control of the situation,” Jai Kishan Chillar, jail superintendent, Bhondsi prison, said.
