The Gurgaon police this week arrested 10 persons from MG Road for causing nuisance in a public place and booked them for committing affray. The arrests, in different cases, come in the wake of increased incidents of harassment of women being reported from the Mall Mile.

In response to such incidents, police had asked the pub owners on MG Road to ensure safety and security of their employees as well as patrons. The police also increased their presence in the area. The heightened presence of the police and action against anti-social activities in the area is likely to continue, police sources said.

On Wednesday, DLF Phase 2 police arrested Sunder Pal, Vijay, Shakir, Sunil, Akhilesh, Vijay, Randhir, Shahidul, Pankaj and Rinku in separate incidents on the busy road.

They were booked under sections 160 (punishment for causing affray) and 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of the Indian Penal Code, which is punishable with imprisonment, fine or both. A police official said an affray is an offence against public peace because it happens in a public place.

“These people were arrested because they were causing nuisance and disturbance on the busy road. This drive against anti-social elements will continue on MG Road and other hot spots,” said an official.

The DLF Phase 1 police station also clamped down on the areas of MG Road under their jurisdiction and booked three people on Wednesday. The police arrested Mukesh, Harmeet Chopra and Manesh Yadav for drinking in a public place near Bristol Hotel. They were later granted bail by the court.

Apart from taking action against miscreants, the police have also increased their presence by deploying two PCR vans on the road. Another police vehicle has been stationed at the Central arcade mall to keep an eye on the residential areas of MG Road.

Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar said the drive against anti-social activities on the busy road will sanitise the area and ensure safety and security of its residents and visitors.
