Gurgaon: 14 arrested for boozing in public in night-time raids

The Gurgaon police on Friday arrested as many as 14 people for consuming liquor in public. They were rounded up in the Sector 29 police station area.
The arrests testify to the rise in cases of public consumption of alcohol across the city. Despite the police taking action against this menace, a large number of people still can be seen consuming liquor outside liquor vends.
To curb these activities, the Gurgaon police have been carrying out night domination exercise in last few days as a result of which a number of violators were caught.
Out of the 14 arrests, two were made near Iffco Chowk Metro station and another three were made outside the Machan Hotel, also in Sector 29.
Pankaj Pawar, a resident of Aya Nagar and Shivrit Singh, resident of Mayur Vihar, Delhi were arrested from Iffco Chowk. Rahul Madan, resident of Sector 43, Faridabad, Arihant Agarwal, resident of Malviya Nagar South Delhi and Amogh Kashyap, a resident of DLF Phase V were arrested from the Machan hotel. All the arrests were made the same night.
Kadam Santnu, a resident of Sushant Lok, Ajit, a resident of Sikanderpur, Deepak Singal, a resident of Rohtak, Ramprakash, a resident of Allahabad and Rajenderkumar, a resident of Chakkarpur were arrested from The Sikanderpur Metro Station.
Abhay, Gopal and Ankur, residents of Chaterpur in Delhi were arrested from Guru Dronacharya Metro Station.
Karamvir Singh, a resident of Sector 57 was arrested from Gurgaon Bus Station
“The cases of liquor consumption in public is on the rise in the city. In one night, on an average, six such cases are reported. However, they differ from time to time and sometimes, in one night, we have to deal with as many as ten cases of liquor consumption in public. We made the arrests and filed a case in the court. Such cases are on the rise but we are doing all that we can to curb such incidents,” Mahendra, head constable, DLF Sector 29 police station, said.
The arrests were made under Section 68 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
