The city saw five accidents on the first day of the New Year which claimed four lives and left two persons critically injured.
According to the police, the accidents took place due to “rash driving”.
In the first case, a 60-year-old woman was crushed by a car around 4:30 pm.
The woman, Samita Rana, was sitting outside her house in DLF Phase 2 when a speeding car hit her.
Samita was rushed to a hospital but she died, the police said.
“My mother was sitting outside the gate of our house when suddenly a speeding car rammed into her. She was crushed under the wheels and died due to internal bleeding. There seems to be no control over speeding vehicles here,” said Rachit Rana, Samita’s son.
The driver of the car, Mohammed Saddam, has been arrested, the police.
The second incident was reported from Sohna Road where a 13-year-old boy died after a tempo truck coming from the wrong side hit him. The boy, Manish, died on the spot.
According to the police, an eyewitness told them that Manish and his friend was standing on the road when the tempo truck with Haryana registration number suddenly hit them. Manish was thrown on the road and he received injuries in the head. His friend was injured in legs and hands. The two were rushed to a hospital where Manish died, the police said.
A case has been registered in this regard against the unknown driver.
The third victim of road rash was a 29-year-old pedestrian who was hit by an unknown speeding vehicle near Sector 10.
As Mohammad, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was walking to his house when the vehicle hit him from behind and fled the spot. The police have registered a case against the unknown driver.
Another man Gopal Singh died on the spot after a speeding truck hit him near Signature Tower. Singh was crossing the road when the truck hit him. He hailed from Bihar.
In this case also, the driver of the errant vehicle is yet to be identified and the case has been registered against unknown person.
In the fifth incident, a Mahindra Scorpio car with a Haryana registration number hit another car near Hero Honda Chowk around 1 in the night.
The Scorpio car was being driven in a rash manner. The driver of the second car was injured severely and passersby rushed him to a hospital. They even noted down the registration number of the Scorpio and informed the police. However, no arrest has been made so far.
All the accused have been booked for rash driving, the police said.
“We are investigation all the cases and strict action will be taken against the accused,” said assistant commissioner of police Hawa Singh.
