Gurgaon: Bad condition of city roads irks residents

Residents are unhappy with the condition of roads in several areas as their repeated complaints to fix potholes and re-carpet roads have not yielded results because of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram’s (MCG) taking over of sectors from the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) still pending.
Residents said the Huda transferred the sectors a year ago and they have been running from pillar to post to get roads repaired as the MCG has not taken over yet. Residents of private colonies also said developers have stopped maintaining the roads after the transfer process began on part of the town and country planning department and Haryana urban local bodies, with progress being slow.
SN Yadav of Sector 21 said, “There are at least four to five stretches on internal sector roads that are dangerous for vehicles. We have to drive slowly and cannot evade the potholes. We are sorry to say that the Huda did not repair the roads earlier saying the sector was to be transferred to the MCG...”
Sectors 21, 22 and 23 were the first to be transferred to the MCG.
The service road from Sector 18 to Shankar Chowk along the NH 8 in Udyog Vihar is merely commutable. The three-kilometre stretch is a lifeline for private vehicles and autorickshaws coming from Shankar Chowk to Iffco Chowk. The stretch caters to all four phases of Udyog Vihar.
Raj Singla, president, Chamber of Industries, Udyog Vihar, said, “The MCG collects property tax and it should also hurry in re-carpeting roads.”
In private areas, the condition of roads are in a pathetic condition. The internal roads of South City, Ardee City, and Sushant Lok are riddled with potholes.
“We have written to the MCG and town planning, but nothing has happened till date. The transfer is the only hindrance,” TN Kaul of Ardee City said.
MR Sharma, superintending engineer, MCG, said, “We are re-carpeting roads in Huda areas such as sectors 40 and 45, and we will re-carpet roads at sectors 21, 22 and 23, but private areas are yet not under the MCG.”
