In an incident of road rage in the wee hours of Tuesday, a resident of Rajendra Park in Gurgaon was shot in the stomach at the Bajghera railway crossing in New Palam Vihar.
The man, identified as 25-year-old Mahipal Singh, hails from Bihar and was in a Maruti Ertiga along with two other friends. They were coming from DLF Gurgaon after partying and stopped their car in the middle of the Bajghera crossing at around 2.30 late Monday night, according to Mahavir Singh, the SHO of the government railway police (GRP), Gurgaon.
According to the Mahipal’s statement, their car broke down at the crossing. They sat near the crossing and started drinking.
The police said that the victim was staying on rent in Rajendra Park and was a roadside vendor.
While they were drinking, five men in a Santro came and asked Mahipal to remove his car from the spot as they had to cross the fatak (railway crossing gate). Singh and his friends, who were drinking, refused, police said. An argument followed.
One of the five persons took out his pistol and shot Mahipal in his stomach, SHO Mahavir Singh said.
According to sources, all five persons fled the spot in their Santro.
Singh’s friends rushed him to Gurgaon Civil hospital at night. He was referred to the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Tuesday.
“He is now fine and we have recorded his statement,” the SHO said.
None of the accused has been identified and the police is trying to go through the CCTV footage. A case against five unknown persons has been registered by the railway police under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and Arms Act.
