Buyers of Unitech Vistas on Tuesday held a protest against the developer and alleged that the construction activity at the site has slowed down considerably despite the promises made by realtor to deliver the project by December 2013. The project was delayed by four years owing to fund crunch and the realtor, six months ago, had promised to deliver the project at the earliest.

They demanded action against the developer for delaying the project.

As many as 40 homebuyers gathered at Sector 45 road opposite Unitech Cyber Park where they staged a protest alleging that the project which was supposed to be handed over to them within three years of the launch in 2009-10. But it has not happended so far.

The said project in located in Sector 70 and is spread across 26 acres. The project has a total of 1,287 flats, the buyers said.

The protesters claimed that most buyers have already paid around 95% of the total cost of the flats, which ranges between Rs 55 lakh and Rs 60 lakh, while the construction has made little progress over the years.

“Despite repeated assurances by the builder, we are unable to get our homes. We are spending a huge amount on rent and home loan EMIs,” said Tejbir Rapria, a homebuyer.

Another homebuyer RK Chopra said, “We are suffering as we have taken a loan from the bank and are paying EMIs on the loan and as well as rent for our current accommodation. We were promised that the builder will pay money to us in case he fails to deliver the project in time. However, we have not yet received any such payment.”

The builder, Unitech, did not respond to phone calls and text messages regarding the protest.
