Unhappy with the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) over the inordinate delay in opening the railway overbridge (ROB) near Basai, the city commuters decided to take matters into their hands. They have removed the stone barriers and started using one side of the flyover from Friday.
The Huda, which claimed that it has not allowed traffic on the overbridge officially, has not put the barrier back.
On condition of anonymity, a senior Huda official said, “One side of the ROB has been opened by commuters. Huda has not given its consent to this. We are waiting for the overbridege to be ceremonially inaugurated. We have informed the police.”
On June 6, while speaking to Hindustan Times, the official had hinted that the ROB would unofficially opened on or before June 15. The Huda official had also confirmed that was pressure from city residents to make the overbridge operational at the earliest.
The inauguration of the ROB has been held up due to the unavailability of Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Yashesh Yadav, a commuter, said, “I am happy that Huda finally realised that opening the ROB is in the interest of the people. One side of the overbridge is good enough to facilitate traffic movement among Pataudi, Manesar and Gurgaon.”
“I am really happy to know that the ROB can be used. Now, we can cross the Rewari Gurgaon railway line using the ROB and reach Sector 81-88, if we are coming from Basai side. It will spare us the hassle of travelling an extra two kilometres via Kachha Road and through various sectors,” said Sunil Saurabh, a commuter, said.
The road overbridge has been built on the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR) near Basai and it has already missed two deadlines.
The Haryana CM had announced May 15 as the first deadline during his visit to the city on April 15. Later , the opening was postponed to June 1. Meanwhile, Khattar is likely to visit Gurgaon on June 17.
