The Gurgaon district administration did not receive a single nomination from candidates on Saturday, the second day of filing papers.
Till now, the district administration has received just one nomination that was filed by an independent candidate on Friday from ward 28.
The nomination process for the second Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) election for 35 wards began on Friday, after the administration received its first nomination from ward 28. The last MCG election was held on May 15, 2011 and seen more than 350 nominations from the 35 wards.
Deepak Kumar of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) said, “The candidates list for our party was declared on Friday only. The chosen canndidates will now have to obtain no objection certificates (NOCs) for property tax, electricity bills and many other dues from different departments before they can file their papers. Hopefully by Monday and Tuesday we will rush for nominations.”
For candidates contesting elections, NOCs from various departments is mandatory and needs to be submitted at the time of nominations.
Mini Secretariat, Kadipur community centre, Vikas Sadan, Haryana roadways office near main bus stand, Zila Parishad office and sub-tehsil office in Sector 56 are the centres where candidates can file their nominations.
“There are two main reasons candidates are avoiding filing their nominations yet. One reason is ‘Shradha Paksh’ and the another reason is Saturday is not considered an auspicious day. Since Shradha Paksh is unavoidable, most of the candidates will rush on Monday and Tuesday for filing their nominations,” said astrologer Jwala Prasad Shashtri.
“I consulted my Guru and he advised me to file my nomination papers on Tuesday which is an auspicious day,” said Rajkumar, a candidate from New Palam Vihar.
The nominations process will close on September 13 and the subsequent day, documents of prospective candidates will be scrutinized. The final list of candidates will then be released on September 15.
