An argument between neighbours turned ugly in Pataudi on Tuesday night after two women were allegedly sexually harassed and their family assaulted and bused. The family claimed that casteist slurs were also used against them.

According to police, a 71-year-old retired army officer and a resident of Jatoli village in Pataudi alleged that his family, including two daughters, were assaulted and molested by his two neighbours over a “petty fight”.

The army man claimed that he was home around 9pm on Tuesday when he heard some noise from outside. When he went to check, he allegedly saw two of his neighbours damaging his car. An argument ensued and it soon turned into a fight, head constable Vikram Singh of Haily Mandi police post said.

The army man alleged that two of his neighbours, their wives and other family members assaulted him and his family. He said they also abused him and his family and tore the clothes of his two daughters.

Head constable Singh said the army man has six daughters, all of whom are married and live separately. Two of his daughters had come to visit him and they too became involved in the fight.

The army man claimed that his neighbours used casteist slurs against him and family and also threatened to kill them.

As Haily Mandi is a police post, a case in this regard was filed at the Pataudi police station on Wednesday.

The FIR has been registered under sections 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 342 (wrongful confinement), 354 (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 3-33-89 of the SC/ST Act.

ACP (Pataudi) Tanya Singh will be investigating the matter.
