A quarrel between two cousins ended up in a twin tragedy for a family after a man, who was filled with remorse over accidentally killing his cousin in a fight, committed suicide on Wednesday.
Both the men were residents of Saidpur village in Farrukhnagar block on the outskirts of Gurgaon. Police said a fight on Monday afternoon led to another altercation in the evening, causing the death of a man identified as Karambir Singh on Monday night. Shocked by what he had done, his cousin Surender Singh committed suicide on Wednesday, police said.
According to police, Karambir, who died on Monday was an alcoholic and used to get into fights very often. On Sunday afternoon, Karambir again got into a fight and beat up his cousin Surender, who runs a tea stall on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway. The next evening, Surender thrashed Karambir. He landed a fatal blow with a stick, and Karambir died.
Sub-inspector (SI) Mukesh Kumar of Farrukhnagar police station, who is investigating the case, said it was the suicide note left behind by Surender that revealed what had happened.
“Karambir was an alcoholic and the family members were not even aware of his whereabouts until they came to know about his death from the suicide note. Surender said in his note that he did not want to kill him and was shocked by the incident,” said Kumar.
Karambir’s body was found in an agricultural field near the under-construction KMP Expressway road.
“Surinder committed suicide at his home. His family found out what he had done late on Wednesday night,” the SI added.
The bodies of both the victims were handed over to their family members after a postmortem examination. A case has been registered at the Farrukhnagar police station and the matter is being investigated.
Police said there was no land dispute or any other motive behind the incident.
