The city police’s slow but steady embrace of mobile and digital technologies is now helping city residents to lodge complaints online, file for verification domestic helps, and submit under queries under the Right to Information (RTI) Act — something which needed a physical visit to the police station.
With Gurgaon having one of the most internet-savvy population, the residents are hailing the new public interface, Har Samay portal of the police department.
Every day, the police receive 100 complaints, 5 RTIs, 50 lost and found complaints and 20 domestic help verification requests via the Har Samay portal.
As soon as a request is made on the portal, an SMS alert, mentioning the details of the request, is sent to the applicant so that he/she can easily track its status. In some cases, which require filing of FIRs, the department does the same online and the receipt is made available to the complainant.
ACP(Sadar) Anil Kumar said the department was getting a good response from the public. “We check real-time data and prompt action is taken. There is no longer a need to come to the police station for non-core work,” Kumar said.
The complaint can be filed and tracked online from home. The system also helps people know who are the investigating officers assigned to their complaint.
Requests pertaining to tenant or domestic help verification, request for issuance of character certificate, permission to organise an event, verification of an employee, permission to take out a procession or organise a protest demonstration, verification of a private security agency and requests to take out a procession and organise a protest or strike can be done through this portal.
To access the portal, a person has to register on the “Har Samay” website, and create a user name and password. This can be done through smartphones, laptops and tabs.
Police said Har Samay initiative is part of the central government’s Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System. The system has proved successful as it connects the police station with a vast data on crime and criminals, which was not accessible so easily earlier.
