The Heritage Transport Museum, located 50km from the city, celebrated its third anniversary on Saturday.
As part of the celebration a-20-foot-tall sculptural installation was unveiled. The installation, a traffic tree, has over 87 traffic lights depicting various signals and has been designed and curated by the museum’s in-house team.
The installation, keeping in mind the festive season, looks like a Christmas tree. Speaking about the concept, Tarun Thakral, founder and managing trustee of Heritage Transport Trust, said , “Traffic lights are such a common part of our daily lives that we rarely give them a second thought. With this installation, the museum pays tribute to road safety and highlights the importance of traffic lights.”
On the occasion, the museum also introduced crystal encrusted Royal Enfield motorcycle. “The iconic motorcycle was covered with glitter as it has been a legend for generations together,” Thakral said.
The visitors were awed by the various installations of the museum — ranging from hand-drawn carts and buggies to new age cars and motorcycles — as it has something for every age.
In addition to its magnificent collection of vehicles from a bygone era, a series of activities too has been planned keeping families in mind during these two-day celebrations.
Visitors will be able to enjoy rides on horse carts and camel carts, try their skills at painting a Mercedes sedan, create various shapes by learning the art of traditional pottery, participate in tyre races, fly kites and take a tour of the museum that depicts India’s transport history.
“Over 2,000 visitors are expected to visit the museum during its third anniversary celebrations,” Thakral said.
Since the official opening of the museum in December 2013, it has won two prestigious awards — The National Tourism Award for being the most innovative and unique tourism project in the country and the 2016 Traveller’s Choice Award by TripAdvisor.
