The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has served an ultimatum to the contractor for allegedly using inferior quality materials for the construction of a road that connects Dhanwapur to the railway station.
The 3-km concrete stretch, which was constructed at a cost of Rs 2 crore about six months ago, has developed cracks and potholes at several places.
Huda administrator Praveen Kumar inspected the road on Monday evening only after instructions from the top brass at Chandigarh. Kumar has also ordered the executive engineer concerned to fix the fault within a week.
“I have asked superintending engineer and executive engineer to report me by Friday about action taken by them to fix the problems,” said the Huda administrator. “This is a case of criminal negligence. I will take legal action against the contractor,” he said.
Residents had complained about poor condition of the road to Huda chief administrator DPS Nagal. They had also approached Kumar over the issue. “The problem is that officials at junior level connive with contractors. Huda should remove the faulty contractor from its panel immediately,” said Dharamsagar, a local resident.
Use of poor quality materials by contractors is quite common in Gurgaon. In February last year, the state government had suspended then superintending engineer VK Ghai for using poor quality materials for constructing a road connecting Sector 4-5 to Palam Vihar.
An FIR was lodged against a private contractor for potholes the internal road at Sector 14 developed four months after repair. Besides, a junior engineer was suspended for three months.'
