Gurgaon: Huda fails to shift MG Road petrol pump yet again

The Huda was supposed to shift the petrol pump from MG Road by January-end, and transfer the land to the NHAI, which is constructing an L-shaped underpass. This underpass will improve traffic from Iffco Chowk Metro station to Delhi via Sikandarpur.

The Haryana urban development authority (Huda) has once again failed to remove the petrol pump falling in the alignment of the under-construction underpass on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon (MG) Road.

On January 22, state chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, while inaugurating the underpasses at Rajiv Chowk and Signature Tower had told Huda to remove the petrol pump by the end of January.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had followed up with Huda in the matter on February 2, but no progress has been made.

“We have been told by a local Huda official that the file (for the petrol pump) is pending with the office of the Huda, Panchkula, chief administrator. The simple task of shift a petrol pump has been delayed by seven to eight months (by Huda), delaying the construction of the underpass. The NHAI has to complete the underpass and open it by March-end for traffic. We needs at least one month to complete the construction of the remaining portion on MG Road,” said a senior Nhai official on the condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to talk to the media.

The Huda was supposed to shift the petrol pump from MG Road and transfer the land to the NHAI, which is constructing an L-shaped underpass. This underpass will improve traffic from Iffco Chowk Metro station to Delhi via Sikandarpur.

Eight months ago, the NHAI was forced to stop the construction of the underpass on MG Road and request the local administration to transfer land at the earliest. The issue was also discussed at the state government level thrice, but the situation remains as is.

Vivek Kalia, estate officer (EO-Huda), Circle II, said, “Huda is on the job to provide alternative plot to petrol pump. We will get it done soon.”

Earlier, on January 1, state chief secretary DS Dhesi had told the development authority to allot alternative site to petrol pump, shift it within a week and handover land to the NHAI.

In October last year, the NHAI had written to the state government to remove the MG Road petrol pump after the contractor had stopped work.

In June 2017, principal secretary to chief minister Rajesh Khullar had also reviewed the shifting of the petrol pump.
