Gurgaon: Inadequate signs lead people to dead-end route near Iffco Chowk
Improper signage on barricades near Iffco Chowk Metro station confuse commutersgurgaon Updated: Jun 21, 2017 23:50 IST
Commuters driving from Huda City Centre Metro station to Iffco Chowk Metro station have been ending up at a road with a dead-end due to improper signage on the barricades put on the road.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is building an underpass on the stretch and, hence, barricades have been installed on the stretch apart from the road diversions put in place two weeks ago.
However, due to lack of proper signage, commuters drive through a portion on the road that is not barricaded and reach a dead-end. They are then forced to drive their vehicles through a non-motorable road that connects to Leisure Valley Road.
The portion that has not been barricaded is meant to take commuters to a fuel station 50 metres ahead of the Iffco Chowk metro station.
While the signage mentioning the same (in Hindi) has been erected on the spot, its placement and small size makes it difficult for commuters to take note of it. They are still adjusting to the diversions on the stretch.
Many commuters end up missing the signage and end up driving through the space in the barricades to pick up or drop people off at the Iffco Chowk metro station and drive into the dead-end.
“There is a sizeable opening among the barricades for vehicles to pass. I used this space to go towards Iffco Chowk. By the time I reached the dead-end, I realised that I was in trouble. A number of vehicles had queued up behind my car and turning back was no longer an option. Left with no choice, I had to drive my vehicle through an empty stretch that led to Leisure Valley Road. However, that stretch was unfit for driving and my car got stuck in the mud twice. I needed the assistance of bystanders to pull my vehicle through,” said Suraj Paswan of DLF Phase 4.
NHAI officials said they will put up signage in English that will be placed at a prominent place to inform commuters of the blocked route.
