Five unidentified armed men allegedly took a Mahindra XUV from its owner at gunpoint on Saturday night in Sector 83.

Aman Puri, an IT executive and a resident of K-2, 4, Sector 83, said in his complaint to the police that he was robbed of his white XUV after he had pulled over at a paan (betel leaves) shop located 300 metres from his residence.

Puri said he reached the paan shop on the road towards Vatika City Centre market in Sector 82 around 9:30pm. While he was ordering paan, two people approached him and asked him for a match box. In a minute, another person joined them, the complaint stated.

He added that with the area dark at that hour, the accused tried snatching the car keys from him.

His complaint added that as he tried to fight them off, they hit him with a gun and shoved him inside his car. He said that though there were a few people on the road at the time, no one came to his rescue as the men were armed.

Sources said while four of the accused boarded the victim’s SUV, another tailed them in a white Maruti Swift. Puri said the men took away his mobile phone as they drove towards Vatika Gurgaon 21 road. He said he was told to get down on an isolated road as they drove off in his vehicle. He then walked to the Kherki Daula police station and reported the robbery.

Acting on his complaint, the police visited the scene of the crime with the victim to collect forensic evidence.

A case in this regard was registered under sections 356 (assault), 395 (kidnapping), 397 (robbery) and 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 25, 54 and 59 of Arms Act.

“A search operation is underway and we are trying to gather more details from the victim. The five men are yet to be identified,” inspector Yaswant Yadav, station house officer, Kherki Daula police station, said.

In another incident, an unidentified person allegedly tried to break the lock of a bike in Sector 82 on Saturday. The incident created panic in the area, with residents claiming that cases of car and bike being taken at gunpoint have increased of late on the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR).

Voicing concern over the incident on Saturday, residents gathered at the Kherki Daula police station on Sunday and demanded security.

“Many robbery cases have, of late, been reported in the area. Security is a major concern here as the neighbourhood is located far away from the city,” Anil Kumar, a resident of Sector 83, said.

On June 11, Rahul Sharma, a cab driver, was allegedly robbed of his Maruti Ertiga at gunpoint when he was driving home to Basai village.
