To resolve congestion at Kherki Daula toll plaza, the concessionaire started operating three additional booths from Thursday. Around 80,000 vehicles cross the toll plaza every day after paying the toll and jams are frequent at the plaza.
The total number of vehicles that pass through the plaza every day is 1,25,000 (including two-wheelers that are exempt from toll). “The three additional booths will be able to cater to 9,000 vehicles per day,” said S Raguraman, chief executive officer, Millennium City Expressway Private Limited, the concessionaire.
The toll plaza has 26 lanes and caters to traffic from Delhi, Gurgaon, Manesar and Jaipur. The toll plaza has turned into a bottleneck, during the peak hours, between Delhi and Jaipur and is a major concern for commuters and industrialists.
After the Sirhaul toll plaza on the Delhi border of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway was razed in February 2014, commuters have been demanding the removal of shifting of the Kherki Daula toll plaza.
Officials said that around 35 additional staff will be deployed on site to ensure a smoother flow of traffic at the plaza, especially during the peak hours.
The three booths will be operational from 8am to midnight and the staff will work in three shifts in these booths.
Ashok Sharma, project director of NHAI, said, “We are planning to take up more such measures to ease congestion at the toll plaza. This plan will cut down the waiting time and will definitely reduce the jam, which is a major concern.”
However, commuters at the Kheri Daula said that they face huge traffic congestion every day because of the toll plaza and that the additional booths will not be of much help.
“The only way to decongest the area is by shifting the toll plaza,” said Deepak Sharma, a daily commuter.
