Gurgaon police has arrested a man on charges of duping a Chennai resident of Rs 22 lakh by offering him a job in one of the top auto companies in the city.
Raj Kumar Sahu was arrested on Monday from MG road Metro station by cyber sleuths who tracked him through sustained technical surveillance.
Police said Sahu, a resident of Patna, had obtained the details of the victim, S Phugajayanti, from a job portal on which he had updated his profile. The accused used to call him posing as one Arjun Dikshit and promised him a job as general manager in one of the companies such as Maruti, Honda or Hero Motors.
Sahu demanded a substantial fee as commission. After regularly calling the victim for two weeks, Sahu managed to win his confidence and was able to get Rs 6 lakh each in two transactions from Phugajayanti. This money was transferred to the account of Sahu’s fiancée, who is likely to be questioned in connection with the fraud.
“When no job was forthcoming, Phuggajayanti started pressing Sahu to return the money. The accused managed to assure him that he was working on getting him a job,” said inspector Anand Kumar, in charge of cyber cell, Gurgaon.
Sahu also managed to get Rs 10 lakh more from Phugajayanti.
After failing to get his money back, Phugajayanti complained to the cyber cell on February 17, after which the cell started an investigation and managed to catch the accused.
In another for the cyber cell, the police arrested another accused in a fake call centre case, in which the accused had duped several people. Ravi Kumar, a resident of Delhi, was arrested on Monday after his role was revealed by another accused Amit Kumar, who is already in police custody.
