Urvashi Yadav, who took to selling chole-kulche to secure her family’s future after her husband met with an accident, has become a celebrity of sorts after her story was published in the media and circulated widely on social media.
Urvashi’s husband Amit Yadav works as an executive with a construction company and the family is currently well-off and owns a house worth Rs 3 crore and SUVs. But Amit met with an accident and there is a possibility that he may not be able to walk after a hip replacement surgery in December.
Sale at her cart near Sector 14 multiplied on Friday as people from across Gurgaon and even Delhi came there to meet the woman who has dared to walk out of comfort zone to secure her family’s future.
Corporate professionals, IT executives and businessmen were among those who came to her cart. While men saw her venture as a bootstrapped startup, women viewed it as empowerment.
Around lunchtime, the cart was thronged by a large number of people, everyone wanting to talk to Urvashi and taste her food.
Lata Sati, a professional, who came with her colleagues, said, “She (Urvashi) works very hard and is an inspiration for women.”
Another professional Sandeep Joshi said, “Despite coming from an affluent background, she decided to sweat it out in the heat. She has focused on her core talent of cooking and this could turn into a successful venture.”
“The consistency of taste, hygiene and quality will decide the success,” said Rajan Gupta, a businessman at the stall.
Sunali, who wrote about Urvashi on her Facebook page ‘Soul Stirrings by Sunali’, was also present.
Urvashi, meanwhile, remains unfazed by the popularity. “I will open a restaurant and become an entrepreneur,” she said as people nodded in appreciation biting into the kulchas.
