Over a week after enforcing traffic diversions at the Huda City Centre junction, the Gurgaon traffic police has decided to continue with its experiments that aim to decongest the junction. In a new move on Wednesday, the traffic police blocked a direct route between sectors 43 and 29 and between Iffco Chowk and Signature Tower.

The junction leads to key roads and landmarks such as the Huda City Centre metro station, Fortis Hospital, Iffco Chowk Metro station, Signature Tower, Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, MG Road, Golf Course Road, Bakhtawar Chowk and DLF Phase 4. Due to the heavy traffic volume at the spot, the junction is always congested.

Under the revised route, commuters going from sector 43 towards DLF Phase 4 or Golf Course Road can no longer take a right turn from the junction as traffic police has blocked the spot.

Instead, they have to cross the traffic signal, head towards the Iffco Chowk Metro station and take a U-turn before the station. They can then take a left turn and use the slip road to head towards DLF Phase 4 or Golf Course Road.

Similarly, those going from Iffco Chowk to Signature Tower cannot take a right turn at the junction and instead will have to head towards Sector 43 and take a U-turn behind Fortis hospital.

“Traffic at the junction needs to be regulated from four sides. This move has been initiated to reduce the burden from two approach roads and decrease the waiting time at the signal. It has been initiated on a trial basis and may be made permanent feature after commuter feedback,” said DCP (traffic) Simardeep Singh.

Crossing the Huda City Centre junction and nearby areas often takes more than 30 minutes. To address this, the traffic police has been experimenting with engineering changes to decongest the spot.

On July 3, the traffic police placed traffic cones at the junction to block direct movement of vehicles between Huda City Centre and Signature Tower. Instead, commuters now need to take a U-turn opposite Taj Vivanta hotel and then take the slip road leading to Signature Tower.
