Gurgaon: Residents reiterate demand for flyover on Sheetla Mata Road
Residents had placed a representation for a flyover or an underpass at Sheetla Mata Road before the Gurgaon district administration earlier toogurgaon Updated: Jul 11, 2017 22:15 IST
Residents living in sectors near Sheetla Mata temple in Gurgaon have once again appealed to the district administration to construct a flyover or an underpass on Sheetla Mata Road. As there is a lot of traffic congestion on this road at all times, residents of sectors 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, Ashok Vihar, Laxman Vihar, Miyawali Colony and nearby areas face a tough time.
MR Sharma, a resident of Sector 5, said, “The residents’ welfare associations of various sectors have met several times to discuss the issue of traffic congestion on this road and had also submitted a memorandum to the district administration. We want the administration to conduct a feasibility study of the road and construct a flyover or an underpass.”
In May this year, Sector 5 residents had led a delegation to former deputy commissioner (DC) Hardeep Singh in this regard.
The roughly three km road from Atul Kataria Chowk to Sector 4/5 caters to densely populated areas of the old city and remains busy. In addition, the Sheetla Mata temple is located just two km from Atul Kataria Chowk. As it is a major religious site that gets a high footfall, traffic in the area, especially around festivals, turns hellish.
“Constructing a flyover on the road near the temple is a perfect solution. The road links remote sectors such as 9 and 9-A with densely populated areas of the old city. We appeal to the Gurgaon deputy commissioner (DC) to take this suggestion into consideration,” said Ram Singh, a resident of Sector 9.
Vinay Pratap Singh, who has taken over the new DC of Gurgaon, said, “The suggestion is welcome and we will definitely consider it and place it before the competent department for further action. The road has undoubtedly become busy and needs traffic decongestion at the earliest to provide residents of the area a better commute. I will hold a meeting in this regard.”
