Traffic police’s plan to decongest the Huda City Centre junction, by enforcing new route diversions from Tuesday, seems to have paid off as commuters were able to pass through the usually choked point on Tuesday without much delay.

The junction is one of the most accessed roads in the city as it leads to key establishments and localities such as Huda City Centre Metro station, Iffco Chowk metro station, Signature Towers, Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, MG Road, Golf Course Road, Bakhtawar Chowk and DLF Phase 4, which resulted in commuters taking nearly 30 minutes to cross the junction during peak hours.

By placing traffic cones at a gap on the intersection, traffic police have blocked direct routes between Huda City Centre - Signature Tower and Signature Tower-Sector 44. The move has made the junction signal-free.

Under the revised routes, those heading from Huda City Centre towards Signature Tower need to take a U-turn opposite Taj Vivanta hotel and then take the slip road leading towards Signature Tower. For travelling in the opposite direction, commuters can take a U-turn from newly placed gaps opposite the Huda City Centre Metro Station.

There is no change in route for commuters heading from Bhakhtawar Chowk towards Huda City Centre metro station.

For daily commuters, the route diversions came as a surprise and relief.

“I wasn’t aware of the new changes on the stretch and was preparing to halt my vehicle on the side, but a traffic police officer came forward and guided me towards the right direction. I was running late for my office meeting but the unexpected decongestion helped me make up for lost time,” said Saurabh Kukreja, an employee at a real estate company at Signature Tower.

Traffic police officers maintained that the route changes introduced on the stretch will become a permanent feature in the coming days if it proves to be successful.

“So far, the feedback from commuters has been positive and traffic congestion has reduced significantly on the spot. Police officials will monitor traffic situation at the junction in the coming days and then take a call on whether to make the route diversions permanent,” ACP Manish Sehgal said.
