The district town planning department on Tuesday took serious note of complaints by the city’s homebuyers against delay in possession and other issues dogging various real estate projects.

A team of officials heard complaints of around 150 homebuyers who gathered at the office of the senior town planner in Sector 14. The aggrieved homebuyers held up banners highlighting their grievances against the developers and voiced concern over their alleged negligent attitude.

Among the developers who were summoned to the meeting at the senior town planner’s office were Clarion Properties Limited, Satya Developers, Unitech Ltd, Emaar Developer, Universal Buildwell, Today Homes and Infrastructure, Adel Landmark, Tata Housing Development and Parsvanath Excotica.

Yusuf Mansuri, the senior town planner, chaired the meeting that was held at the behest of the Alottee Grievance Redressal Forum (AGRF). He was quoted as telling the developers, “I want you all to act seriously in redressing grievances — whether it is allowing homebuyers to move to their unfinished homes without getting occupancy certificates or provision of fire safety measures. I will hold a meeting next week where we will take up serious offences that have come to light. The developers have to speed up implementation of projects failing which, we will lodge FIRs against them. Homebuyers should be treated as per the builder-buyer agreement.”

District town planner (DTP), Mohan Singh and DTP enforcement, Rajinder Sharma were among a host of other officials who were also present at the meeting that stretched for five hours.

RK Goel, a homebuyer, said, “We booked our flat five six years ago and we still don’t have any word on when the project is likely to be completed, if at all. Why isn’t there a crackdown on developers for looting homebuyers or taking them for granted? While this forum (AGRF) was created to redress the grievances of homebuyers, the same hasn’t happened. Even today, the developers sent representatives who had no knowledge of the issues that we are faced with.”

Members of Universal Aura Welfare Association, Sector 82, arrived at the meeting with banners and posters highlighting their plight and voiced their anger over the state of affairs.

“We might have to sit on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in order to get our voices heard. This is a do or die battle. Despite repeated requests, the developers are not even willing to talk to us. We booked our flats six years ago and the construction has not even reached the halfway stage,” Itinderpal Singh, a member of the association, said.

We are completely shattered as the developer is not even ready to talk to us despite our repeated requests. We have booked flats six years ago and till date construction is just halfway,” said Itinderpal Singh, a member of association.
