Gurgaon: Social media abuzz as CM Khattar gets stuck in traffic jam
Khattar was on his way to an event in Gurgaon when he got stuck for a few minutes in a jam on Golf Course Road
Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday morning got a small taste of how Gurgaon residents normally spend their mornings — stuck in a traffic jam.
The CM’s motorcade was stuck in a jam on Golf Course Road near the area’s Rapid Metro station when he was on his way to the plantation drive in Sector 53. While he was stuck only for two to three minutes, the incident evoked a strong reaction on social media with city residents saying it would give the CM an idea of the state of civic amenities in the city.
Later, in his address, Khattar said that due to the large number of infrastructure projects going on in the city, traffic jams and inconvenience to commuters were taking place, but the projects would soon bear results.
According to eyewitnesses at the spot, the jam was caused due to potholes and construction work underway near the Metro station. However, as soon as the VIP movement was held up, police officials and traffic personnel could be seen moving in all directions to ensure that vehicular movement resumed. Soon, the motorcade was able to move again.
However, a large number of Twitter users from Gurgaon said it was a perfect reminder of how the people in the city suffer due to poor civic amenities.
Hemant Kumar, a Gurgaon resident, tweeted: “In a way good that the CM got an impact. What we the people face, may be now actions get translated faster on the ground”(sic).
Some of the residents, who commute on the Golf Course Road, were affected by the CM’s motorcade and had terse things to say.
@Namanvohra wrote: “why was there no advisory issued by @gurgaonpolice about the CM’s visit. People like us were late by 2 hours for office b’coz of traffic” (sic).
However, hoping for more, Amit Mitra tweeted: “It would have been great if the rain continued for 2 hours and the CM would have to take a helicopter to evacuate”(sic).
