Firefighting personnel were kept on their toes throughout Wednesday as the city saw around 35 fire-related incidents, including three major ones. There were no casualty even though property worth crores of rupees was destroyed.
Fire officials reported that these incidents were caused either due to bursting of firecrackers or short circuits. They started receiving calls from across the city since morning itself.
Two of the major incidents of fire were reported from Narsinghpur and Bamroli village. Eyewitnesses said a Honda service centre at Narsingpur caught fire, damaging five used cars. The incident took place around 10 pm and fire officials doused the flames in two hours with the help of a fire tender from the Sector 37 fire station. They managed to save a showroom in the annexe from the flames.
The second major fire incident was reported from a cardboard factory in Bamroli village, 12 kilometres from the city, around 12:30 am. It took 20 firefighting vehicles and 60 firefighters to put out the fire and rescue operations continued for 12 hours.
The third fire incident was reported around 1 pm from a scrap dealer’s store located on the road between Sectors 17 and 18. Around seven to eight fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was put out in three hours.
“We were prepared to deal with any kind of emergency. Our fire tenders reached all spots soon after getting the alert. Fortunately, there was no loss of life or any injury,” said IS Kashyap, senior fire officer. On an average, about 20-30 fire related incidents take place in Gurgaon on Diwali, he added.
