Gurgaon: Three men posing as power utility officials looted ₹20,000 and jewellery

The accused held the wife and daughter of the power utility official at knifepoint and fled with cash and ornaments.

Three men posing as power utility officials held the family members of a power department official hostage and stole cash and ornaments on Saturday morning.

Around ₹20,000 in cash and gold jewellery was allegedly looted from the residence of a Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) official in Farukh Nagar, the police said on Saturday.

The utility official, Suraj, a resident of Farukh Nagar, told police that three men entered his house around 1.30pm and asked if he was in. On learning that Suraj was away, they pulled put knives and threatened his wife and daughter before decamping with the cash and jewellery.

The victim in his complaint said that three men met him on Friday and enquired about meter connection.

They visited his on Saturday, posing as utility officials, and made off with the loot after holding his wife and daughter at knife-point.

Suraj was informed about the incident by his wife over phone and he rushed to lodge a complaint with the police. He urged the police to recover the loot and bring the culprits to book.

A case has been registered at Farukh Nagar police station under Section 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“We examined crime scene and found the cupboards broken and ₹20,000 and gold jewellery stolen,” Ram Nivas, assistant sub-inspector, Farukh Nagar police station, said.
