The event has been conceptualised on the lines of Indian Premier League and is aimed at providing a sports opportunity to people with disabilities.

The city will host a three-day para-sports event — Wheelchair Cricket League — from February 16, in which four teams will compete.

The league, to be held at the Lancers International School in DLF-5, will comprise 15-over matches, barring the final, which will be a 20-over affair, a spokesperson of Para Sports Foundation that has initiated the league, said.

The three-day event will witness clashes among four teams — Delhi Sultans, UP Strikers, Chandigarh Lions and South Warriors. The event has been conceptualised on the lines of Indian Premier League and is aimed at providing a sports opportunity to people with disabilities.

Gulshan Kumar, Vinod Thakur and Abhay Pratap Singh are some of the noted players who will participate in the contest. A Guinness World Record holder in wheelchair spinning, Gulshan Kumar is also a classical dancer. Vinod Thakur is a renowned TV celebrity, a winner of India’s Got Talent and a finalist in Nach Baliye. Abhay Pratap Singh is a war veteran.

“I am excited to participate in the tournament and can’t wait to see the enthusiastic Gurgaon crowd cheering for us,” Singh said.

Kumar said, “I would like to thank Para Sports Foundation for providing us with a platform to display our talent.”

Para Sports Foundation is a non-profit organisation that is working towards the social welfare of persons with disabilities. It has been actively involved in organising various tournaments and championships for para-athletes.

“This tournament will provide a platform to para-athletes to showcase their talent. We hope that Gurgaon and its people will come forward and support this noble cause,” Sarvesh Kumar Tiwari, the president of the foundation, said.

The foundation was instrumental in organising the India-Bangladesh Wheelchair Cricket Series in New Delhi in April 2017.
