The Alwar police on Monday arrested the brother of Geeta Tomar, the prime accused in the Sohna triple murder case. According to police, Samardeep Chauhan is suspected to be involved with his sister and her domestic help in the killing of her in-laws – a 65-year-old man, his 60-year-old wife, and their 38-year-old disabled son – in Thakurwada village on Thursday night.
Chauhan, who was arrested by Alwar police from his house in Dehradun, is being questioned in connection with the murders, and his role in the entire incident, said inspector Ajit Singh, SHO Ramgarh police station, Alwar.
The murder is apparently a fallout of a property dispute between Geeta, whose husband Vipin Tomar committed suicide 6 months ago, and her in-laws.
The accused strangulated the bodies and then burned them. Chauhan alleged in his confession that the accused had used 12 litres of petrol to burn the bodies, said Singh.
Chauhan said that his sister had been allegedly forced to take the extreme step because she was being repeatedly humiliated and physically tortured by her in-laws, who, did not want to give her any share in the property and wanted her to leave the house, added Singh.
The murdered trio have been identified as Geeta’s father-in-law Satpal Tomar, mother-in-law Pushpa Tomar, and brother-in-law Pankaj Kumar.
Chauhan also alleged that Geeta was sexually harassed by her brother-in-law, said Singh.
Sources said that on the day of the murder, Geeta had a fight with her in-laws, which might have pushed her to commit the ghastly crime. They also alleged that the murders had been carried out at Geeta’s behest who had promised large amount of money to Chauhan and her domestic help Vikas.
Alwar police had arrested Geeta and Vikas from Sohna on Friday night.
The body of Pankaj was burnt in Nagina area of Mewat and the other two bodies were burnt in Naugaon, Alwar. The locals spotted the half-burnt bodies and informed the police, who, scanned the footage of the CCTV cameras at the toll plazas to identify the vehicles that entered the district, and managed to spot the car used by the accused.
The car had been borrowed by Geeta from her neighbour, said Singh.
