Gurgaon: Two U-turns opened to ease traffic at Genpact Chowk
Two U-turns have been opened 500 metres from Genpact Chowk on Golf Course Road in Gurgaongurgaon Updated: Jul 26, 2017 22:39 IST
To streamline traffic flow and ease congestion at Genpact Chowk on Golf Course Road, officials have opened two U-turns 500 metres from the spot.
The U-turns have been opened in view of the ongoing construction work of an underpass in DLF Phase-5, which is causing snarls at the busy intersection.
Traffic on Golf Course Road, Extension road and other arterial roads in the vicinity was thrown out of gear for two hours on Tuesday morning after a hydra crane broke down at the crossing and blocked the movement of vehicles on one lane.
On July 5 and 6, construction work encroached upon a major part of the main road and traffic police had to be deployed at the spot during the peak hour to normalise traffic movement.
The two U-turns are placed one after the other and are located opposite to the entrance of Park Drive and Augusta Point.
The commuters moving from AIT Chowk to Golf Course Road, who want to visit residential areas or schools in Suncity no longer need to cross the Genpact Chowk as they can take the U-turn, ahead of the Sector 53/54 Metro station.
Similarly, those travelling on the Golf Course Road towards AIT Chowk can take the U-turn and head towards South Point Mall, condominiums in DLF-5 and Paras Hospital.
Residents living in DLF Summit and Park Place, though, cannot avail of this turn and instead have to take the U-turn located opposite Vipul Belmonte.
“Until the underpass is constructed, the U-turns will be of great assistance to commuters and will help us avoid congestion at Genpact junction, where traffic from St Thomas Marg, DLF-5 and Gurgaon-Faridabad Road converges,” Mihir Kohli of DLF-5 said.
“We are trying out all the possible combinations to streamline the flow of traffic on this stretch. This particular U-turn has been created in such a way so that the traffic coming from Sikanderpur as well as from Sector 55-56 moves seamlessly. Our aim is to ease traffic flow and provide optimum results for vehicular movement,” a DLF spokesperson said.
