Gurgaon: Woman commits suicide; was being threatened by three moneylenders

A middle-aged woman in Sector-47 allegedly committed suicide after money lenders threatened her of dire consequences if she did not return the money she owed them.
The victim, who is originally a resident of Jharsa village, has been identified as Sunil Thakran. She hanged herself using a cloth as rope on Tuesday around midnight, after the money lenders came to her home and threatened her, the family members told the police.
A case under sections 306 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Sadar police station. The matter is being investigated.
The three accused against whom the case was registered are Sanju Tanwar of Gwal Pahari, Pradeep Bhati of Behrampur, and another unidentified person, police said.
ASI Ashok Kumar, who is investigating the matter, said that according to the complainant filed, the matter pertained to a loan of ₹4 lakh. The victim had taken the loan on interest and had returned ₹3 lakh to the accused.
“In their complaint to the police, the family members of the deceased have alleged that three men had visited their home on Tuesday evening and demanded the woman return their money. They threatened her and her family. We have registered a case and started investigation,” ASI Ashok Kumar said.
According to the complainant filed by the victim’s son Navneet Thakran, Tanwar and Bhati used to threaten his mother over repayment of the money she had taken. On Tuesday, they threatened to kill Navneet, the complaint stated. Late on Tuesday night, the woman hanged herself inside a room. The family members found her dead in the morning when they went to check on her, and immediately took her to the Medanta hospital. She was declared dead on arrival.
The police have handed over the body of the deceased to her family after an autopsy was conducted.
“The matter is still in its initial stage of investigation. Things will become clearer when the trio is question in this regard,” ASI Kumar said.
The victim’s family has refused to comment on the matter right now.
