In a major win for residents of South City-2, the town and country planning (TCP) department of Haryana has ordered Unitech to build a community centre by April 2018.
The order came on complaints filed by residents.
Arun Kumar Gupta, financial commissioner (FC), TCP Haryana, heard the grievances of South City-2 residents and passed his order on April 20.
“As per the norms, the developer is bound to construct a community centre for public use. The community centre has to be constructed at a site located roughly 300 metres from the existing club in F Block,” said Neeraj Yadav, RWA president.
The RWA has been demanding the community centre for seven years. The residents said the developer constructed a club which is currently being used as a commercial establishment.
BS Chauhan, resident, “It was mandatory for the developer to construct a community centre, separately from the club, for common use of residents. But the developer built only the club for commercial gains. The TCP rules do not allow developers to build a club instead of a community centre and use it commercially. We are thankful to the financial commissioner, TCP, for finding merit in our appeal and giving a decision in our favour.”
The residents put up a signboard at the new site for the community centre on Saturday. After the order from the financial commissioner, a team of officials from town and country planning inspected the South City-2 area to find a suitable site with help of RWA members.
“A 1-acre plot in H Block has been earmarked by the town planning for constructing the community centre. We have not yet received any information from the developer yet,” said SC Sharma, a RWA member.
More than 3,000 families are living in South City-2, which is located along Sohna Road.
