The tussle over reinstatement of two suspended workers of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) may soon come to an end as the management and workers’ union softened their stance in the third round of negotiations at the office of the labour department here on Monday.
The workers — Jaibir Yadav, who is an executive member of the workers' union, and Naresh Yadav — had to file replies to a showcause notice issued by the company on August 9 within 48 hours.
The notices, sent through post, were not delivered to their addresses after which the workers were called to the plant and handed over the letters on Monday.
The management will take a final call after studying their replies.
The two were suspended on August 6 after they had an altercation with a production manager over the issue of overtime duty and leave.
Sources said during the latest talks both parties have agreed to accommodate as much as possible for an early resolution to the problem which was leading to tension in the auto-maker's Manesar plant.
“We are hopeful that the matter will be resolved soon after the workers submit their replies to the notices. We are willing to commit that such incidents of brawl would be avoided to the best extent possible by the workers in future,” Ashok Yadav, president of the HMSI employees' union told HT after coming out of the meeting.
Two previous rounds of talks had failed as the labour union alleged that the company was sending unauthorised officials.
The Honda management and union began simultaneous talks over wage hikes on Monday.
Yadav said the union would also demand better medical and conveyance facilities.
The next meeting to discuss salary hike will be held this Friday.
