The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has finally floated a tender for cleaning a stormwater drain in DLF City (Phase-4) after much persuasion by residents who have been relentlessly pressing officials of Huda and the forest department for the last two years.
Hindustan Times too, in a series titled Focus DLF City-4, has consistently highlighted the problems being faced by residents due to the clogged drain which has been illegally connected with sewer lines.
“We have floated a tender and the work will shortly be awarded to a contractor. The cleaning process should be completed within a fortnight. We are already removing trees with the help of the forest department,” said Haridatt Sharma, Huda executive engineer. Taking serious note of a HT report, Huda administrator Praveen Kumar had appointed Sharma to monitor the cleaning work.
The drain was constructed by Huda to drain out rainwater from the area along the forest bund but has become a health hazard for residents.
It is also causing ecological imbalance as pigs and stray animals had died recently.
Residents complained that they had to keep their windows locked at all times because of the strong stench.
“If the Huda does not clean the drain now, we will take up the matter with Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda,” said NC Singh, president of the Richmond Park residents’ welfare association.
