In order to make the northern peripheral road (NPR), also known as Dwarka Expressway, operational at the earliest, the officials of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will work in coordination to link with National Highway-8.

The officials on Monday discussed the issue of acquiring land for the construction of a link road connecting NPR with NH-8. Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had visited the NPR and other sites where work is underway and directed officials to link NPR with the national highway to make it operational.

Monday’s was the first meeting between NHAI and Huda after the CM’s visit to Gurgaon a fortnight ago on April 15.

“We have acquired the land for construction of a link road — also known as connecting peripheral road (CPR) — and we are in a position to hand over the land to NHAI for the construction of a road. But before that, we have to demarcate the land,” Huda administrator Yashpal Yadav said.

The 3.2-kilometre road will help in connecting the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and NH-8 to Dwarka Expressway. The CPR will start 200 metres before Kherki Daula toll plaza on the NH-8 and will join the Dwarka Expressway near Harsaru village.

This connecting road will be a vital link between Dwarka Expressway and SPR as a cloverleaf flyover will be built on the NH-8 to facilitate easy movement of vehicles from east to west and vice-versa. The connectivity will help in decongesting the NH-8, which witnesses daily jams and has several bottlenecks between Gurgaon and Delhi.

A large number of vehicles going to Sohna Road and Golf Course Road from Dwarka and west Delhi could use this connection. Traffic from south Delhi, Golf Course Road and Faridabad could easily enter the city, go to Manesar or move towards new sectors and Dwarka, thus reducing pressure on the highway.

“Besides that, we also discussed the modalities connecting the southern peripheral road and the NPR near Kherki Daula,” said Yashpal, adding that Huda’s role is to hand over physical possession of land to the NHAI as early as possible.

A senior NHAI official said that work on the cloverleaf flyover was to start two months ago. “Due to a delay in completion of NPR and SPR, the work on the cloverleaf flyover has been delayed and now the Haryana government has expressed a need to expedite the work,” he said.
