In order to make the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR) operational and connect both NPR and the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) with national highway (NH) 8 near the Kherki Daula toll plaza, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) will hold a meeting with NHAI chairman YS Malik soon.
Huda administrator Yashpal Yadav said that making the NPR operational is the top priority of his department. He is likely to meet the NHAI chairman next week to discuss NPR and construction of a cloverleaf flyover on NH8.
The NHAI was handed the NPR project in October last year. The NPR is a 27-km-long road of which 18km falls in Gurgaon. The Huda built nearly 15km of this portion, but work on the remaining three km has been delayed due to land-related litigation.
“My purpose of meeting the NHAI chairman is to apprise him of the traffic problem and related issues that can be resolved by making NPR operational at the earliest and by constructing the cloverleaf flyover,” said Yadav.
“We held a meeting with NHAI’s local officials two days ago. After that meeting, we decided to hold another round of meetings at the level of the NHAI chairman with regards to connecting NPR with NH8 and construction of the cloverleaf,” he added.
On April 15, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had visited Gurgaon and inspected the entire city right from the SPR to NPR and all four bottlenecks on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. He had instructed Huda to expedite the work to make NPR and SPR operational and link them together in coordination with the highways authority.
However, a senior NHAI official said the NPR cannot be linked with NH8 near Kherki Daula as it would create problems for the toll operator.
“Three years ago, Huda had tried to connect NPR with NH8, which created problems for the toll operator. It is possible only after permission from top NHAI officials and the Union road transport ministry. As far as construction of the cloverleaf flyover is concerned, NHAI’s detailed project report (DPR) in this regard is at an advanced stage,” said the official.
