The installation of 23 hi-end CCTV cameras on the 28-km stretch between Rao Tula Ram Marg in Delhi and Kherki Daula on the Gurgaon Expressway has just begun and is projected to be complete by March-end. This will follow the installation of variable sign messages (VSMs) carrying information regarding traffic rules and jams on all crossings of this stretch on the National Highway No 8.
On the other hand, the expressway concessionaire has now decided to outsource the work of dismantling the 32-lane defunct Sirhaul toll plaza to a professional agency that would also work out a traffic diversion plan for the commuters.
According to the concessionaire firm MCEPL, the Rs. 40 crore project would also include installation of new signboards and crash barriers.
Raghuraman S, the CEO of MCEPL said that they had started the installation work of CCTV cameras and control room.
If the concessionaire firm is to be believed, by March 25 all major crossings of the Gurgaon Expressway (over and under the flyovers) would be installed with hi-end 360 degree rotating pan tilt zoom CCTV cameras. A control room with a server and multiple screens for the same would be set up at the toll plaza office.
When asked why the work of dismantling the defunct Sirhaul toll plaza that took off on March 3 was discontinued, Raghuraman said that the company had decided to outsource the work to a third party as the job involved skilled manpower and machinery. “The work is likely to restart within 2-3 days as we have almost decided on the agency to do the job,” he said.
